Product Information

Name:
N-(5-Bromo-3-methylpyridin-2-yl)pivalamide
Synonyms:
  • N-(5-bromo-3-methyl-2-pyridyl)-2,2-dimethyl-propanamide
Description:

N-(5-Bromo-3-methylpyridin-2-yl)pivalamide is a neuromuscular blocking agent that has been shown to have a rapid onset and short duration of action. It acts by competitively inhibiting the nicotinic receptors at the postsynaptic membrane, preventing the transmission of nerve impulses. N-(5-Bromo-3-methylpyridin-2-yl)pivalamide was found to be more potent than succinylcholine in both animal models and human subjects. The drug has been shown to antagonize the effects of succinylcholine, which may be useful for reversal of muscle paralysis in patients who are intubated.
