2-Bromopyridine 1-oxide is a recycled chemical that has been shown to be an effective hydrogen peroxide stabilizer. It is synthesised by reacting diisopropylamine with 2-bromo-pyridine in the presence of a catalyst. The filtrate from this reaction contains 2-bromopyridine 1-oxide, which can be purified by vacuum distillation. This chemical has been found to have antimicrobial properties and can be used as a pesticide or in industrial production processes. It has also been shown to inhibit carbenes and pyrithione, as well as being an efficient recycler of hydrogen peroxide.
