Benzo[b]thiophen-4-amine (BTA) is a yellow solid that is soluble in organic solvents. BTA can be synthesized from formic acid and piperazine. The major impurities of BTA are quinones, which can be removed by photolysis. Hydrogen peroxide is produced during the synthesis of BTA and can be used as a catalyst for the reaction. The solvents used to extract BTA are not well characterized, but may include solvents such as chloroform, benzene, or carbon tetrachloride. BTA is used in the manufacture of polyphosphoric acid and nucleophilic reagents such as sodium thiocyanate. Unidentified substances were also found in the crude product of this chemical’s synthesis, which may have been formed during the process. Recombinant human proteins have been made with this chemical.br>br>
