Bitolterol mesylate is a bronchodilator that belongs to the group of pharmacological agents. It is a beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and a potent bronchodilator with a rapid onset of action. Bitolterol mesylate acts by binding to beta-2 adrenergic receptors in the lungs, which causes relaxation of the smooth muscle in the airways and an increase in airflow to the lungs. This drug can be used for treating asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other conditions involving lung inflammation. Side effects may include chest pain, heart palpitations, headache, dizziness, or nausea. Bitolterol mesylate has also been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria that cause inflammatory bowel disease.
