Bicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1,3,5-trien-7-one, 3-methoxy (BCOOM), is an aromatic compound with a benzocyclobutenone ring structure. It has a strong tendency for tautomerism, changing between the keto and enol forms of the molecule. When it is in the keto form, it is a polyphosphoric acid amide that can be substituted at either ortho or para positions on the aromatic ring. The substituents are usually electron-withdrawing groups such as carbonyl groups or acetophenones. When it is in the enol form, it is an acetophenone that can be substituted at both ortho and para positions on the aromatic ring. The substituents are usually electron donating groups such as alcohols or ethers.
