It is used as a postprocessing agent in hydrogenation reduction reactions and can be used for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. 3-Bromo-2-methylpyridine has been shown to bind to the cannabinoid type 1 receptor with high affinity, but it has not been determined whether this binding leads to inhibition. The chemical structure of 3-bromo-2-methylpyridine is similar to that of other cannabinoid type 1 receptor antagonists, such as SR141716A and AM251.
