2-Butanone oxime is a reactive chemical compound that is used as an intermediate in the production of glycol ethers and esters. The optimum concentration for this chemical is 0.1-0.2 M in methanol, ethanol, or acetone. It reacts with methyl ethyl ketoxime to form the corresponding oxime. 2-Butanone oxime has been shown to be toxic to rats at doses of 300 mg/kg body weight when administered intraperitoneally. This compound is not readily absorbed by inhalation or through the skin and can be detected in air samples using gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector. A simple analytical method for 2-butanone oxime was developed that uses chitosan quaternary ammonium as a stationary phase on a column packed with silica gel. The mobile phase consists of 1% acetic acid in water and the flow rate is 1 mL/min.
