Description:
4-(Bromomethyl)-1-Chloro-2-Methoxybenzene (4BCMB) is a cytotoxic lead compound that is used in the treatment of ovarian cancer. It has been shown to have cytotoxic activity against leukemia and murine leukemia cells, but not against human leukemia cells. 4BCMB also shows antitumour activity in ovarian carcinoma, as well as cytostatic effects on the murine ovary when given orally or intravenously. 4BCMB inhibits DNA synthesis by binding to the nucleotide sequence of the DNA chain and prevents it from being transcribed into mRNA. This agent is also known to be an inhibitor of protein synthesis.
