Bensultap is an ethylene diamine-based pesticide that is used in agriculture and as a control agent for bedbugs. It has been shown to be toxic to mammals, birds, and fish. Bensultap causes neurotoxic effects by inhibiting the function of the Ryanodine receptor, which affects the release of calcium ions from the sarcoplasmic reticulum. Piperonyl butoxide (PBO) or galacturonic acid (GA) have been shown to protect rats from bensultap toxicity. GA protects mice against bensultap-induced convulsions.
