Description:
Balsalazide disodium is a prodrug that converts to balsalazide in the gastrointestinal tract. It has shown efficacy in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. Balsalazide inhibits colonic inflammation through its inhibition of NF-κB and IL-8 production. It also has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells.
