Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) carbonate is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of organofluorine compounds. It is used as a solvent and an additive for plastics and paints. Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) carbonate has been shown to react with amines and semicarbazides in the presence of lithium metal or other reducing agents (e.g., phosphites). This reaction leads to the formation of solvents such as dimethylaminobenzene (DMBA), 2,2-dimethoxypropane (DMP), or dimethyldioxirane (DMDO). Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) carbonate also reacts electrochemically with carbamates in organic solvents at low temperatures.
