Description:
1,3-Bis(carboxyethoxy)-2,2-bis(carboxyethoxy)propane is a polycarbonate that has been synthesized from 1,3-dicarboxyethoxy-2,2-dicarboxyethoxypropane and palladium acetate. The compound has been shown to have some thermal expansion properties, which is due to the hydrogen bonding between the two carboxyl groups. Compounds with this type of structure are often used as a component in the synthesis of other polymers. 1,3-Bis(carboxyethoxy)-2,2-bis(carboxyethoxy)propane also fluoresces when exposed to ultraviolet light. This property has been used for quantitative analysis by measuring its optical density.
