Description:

(2S,4S)-2,4-Bis(diphenylphosphino)pentane is a diphosphine ligand that is used as an additive to increase the selectivity of catalysts. It has been shown to be more selective than (1R,2S)-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane for the addition of styrene to ethyl diazoacetate. The reaction time for this process was found to be shorter in the presence of the ligand. The multinuclear NMR spectra indicate that the ligand binds to each metal atom in the catalyst and induces a change in conformation. This change can be seen by comparing the spectral data obtained before and after adding the ligand. The crystallography data shows that there are two binding sites on each metal atom in the catalyst.
