2-Biphenylylisocyanate is an organic compound that is used in the production of other chemicals. It is a structural analogue of biphenyl and can be synthesized by cyclization of 2-bromobenzaldehyde with sodium acetate. This reaction gives 2-phenylacetamide, which undergoes hydrolytic decarboxylation to give 2-biphenylylisocyanate. The photochemistry of this molecule has been studied extensively. Retrosynthetic analysis can be used to derive new synthetic routes to this molecule from simpler starting materials.
