Description

Benzyl salicylate is an organic compound that belongs to the group of glycol ethers and is used as a solvent in analytical chemistry. It has been shown to be a good candidate for wastewater treatment because it is able to react with nitrate and benzene at high rates. Benzyl salicylate can also be used for the extraction of salicylates from biological samples. The response element that binds benzyl salicylate is found in the promoter region of the nitrate reductase gene. This response element can be activated by hydroxyl radicals, which are created during lipid peroxidation reactions. Benzyl salicylate also inhibits benzoate oxidation, which can affect polymer compositions in vitro.
