5-Bromo-7-iodoindole is a bromoarene that can be synthesised from 5-iodoindole and ammonium acetate. It has been shown to react with amines, monoamines, and dimers to form corresponding indoles. The family of 5-bromo-7-iodoindoles includes both chiral and achiral members. Functionalities include carboxamide, carbonylation, and aminocarbonylation. 5-Bromo-7-iodoindole can also be synthesised from 7-bromoindole and iodine in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The product is then purified by recrystallisation or chromatography.
