Description:
1-Bromo-3-chloro-2-methylbenzene (1BCMB) is a catalytic, selective and highly efficient reagent for the arylation of aromatic compounds. It reacts with pyridine to yield 1,4-dihydropyridines in good yields. The nature of the reaction is thought to involve an initial nucleophilic attack by chlorine on the pyridine followed by electrophilic substitution at the ortho position. This product can also be used as a coupling agent when reacted with electrophiles such as phenylacetylene. Addition of this product to an aromatic ring leads to formation of pyrazine derivatives.
