Tris(2,2'-bipyridine)cobalt(II) bis(hexafluorophosphate) can be used for efficient photocatalytic oxidation of organic compounds and for the generation of photoelectrons in solar cells. The compound is also being investigated for use as a sensitizer to increase the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells.
