1,2-Bis(2-iodoethoxy)ethane (DIEA) is a bifunctional chemical that can be used to crosslink polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) nanoparticles. This molecule has been shown to have fluorescence properties, which are useful in the detection and identification of metal ions. DIEA also has superparamagnetic iron oxide nanogels that can be used for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). It is also a carcinoma cell line with structural analysis that can be used as a biomarker for tumor cells.
