Biperiden is a cholinergic drug and belongs to the class of drugs that act on dopamine receptors. Biperiden has been shown to increase locomotor activity in rats. It also inhibits the synthesis of gamma-aminobutyric acid from L-glutamic acid, which is involved in brain functions. Biperiden has been used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, although it is not as effective as other medications. Biperiden has been shown to be toxic for the liver and kidneys.
