Description:
2-Bromooctanoic acid is a fatty acid that is used in wastewater treatment. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to cytochrome c oxidase, which prevents the production of ATP and inhibits mitochondrial function. 4-Bromo-2-octanoic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, with an IC50 value of 29 µmol/L. 2-Bromo-4-octanoic acid also inhibits the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, but is not active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Candida albicans.
