Product Information
- 2,3-Bis-chloroMethyl-pyridine.HCl
2,3-Bis(chloromethyl)pyridine hydrochloride is a precursor to 2,3-dichloropyridine. It is an environmentally viable chemical that can be produced at scale. In the presence of a strong base and sulfuric acid, 2,3-bis(chloromethyl)pyridine hydrochloride readily reacts with isobutylene to form 2,3-dichloropyridine. This reaction has been shown to proceed smoothly in the absence of chlorinated solvents such as dichloromethane or chloroform. The use of these solvents would have meant that the process would not have been scalable due to environmental concerns.
2,3-Bis(chloromethyl)pyridine hydrochloride has also been shown in calorimetry experiments to react with chloride ions to form chlorine gas and release heat at a rate of about 5 kcal/mol. This ex
