Bismuth germanium oxide (BGO) is a material that has a number of optical properties. It is used as an optical system for x-ray imaging and in model studies to investigate the proton-hydrogen collisions. BGO is also used to detect thermal expansion, hydroxide solutions, radiation, and sodium hydroxide solutions. The light signal from BGO is measured by photomultiplier tubes and converted into an electrical current. This electrical current can be measured for constant or particle size measurements.
