3-Bromopropanesulfonic acid sodium (3BPSA) is a sulfopropylated compound that has been synthesised as a proton donor. The interaction of 3BPSA with the bacterial cell membrane has been studied by microscopy studies, where it was found to produce pegylated reaction products. 3BPSA also binds to the affinity ligand, which is an antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial growth. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in binding experiments, and may have potential for use as an antimicrobial agent.
