(Benzamido)oxy acetic acid is a noncompetitive inhibitor of the enzyme catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT). It prevents the methylation of catecholamines, including dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine. The optimum dose for this compound is 1.5 mg/kg body weight per day. It has been shown to be effective as a pesticide in controlling levels of pests such as leaf rollers, aphids, and sugarbeet root maggots. It is also used agriculturally as a control agent for weeds and insects that are resistant to other pesticides.
