Benzeneazomalononitrile is an anticancer agent that inhibits the synthesis of guanylate. It has potent anticancer activity and can be used for the treatment of various malignancies, including leukemia and lymphoma. Benzeneazomalononitrile is a formyl derivative of benzene and an azole nitrile with a methyl group at position 2. It binds to the soluble guanylate cyclase to inhibit its activity, which leads to decreased levels of cGMP in cells. This drug also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties as well as cardiovascular disorders. The most efficient method for synthesizing this compound is by hydrogenation reduction of methylbenzene.
