Product Information
- 1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, mono(4-hydroxybutyl) ester
Benzoic acid 1-(4-hydroxybutyl) ester is a metabolite of benzenedicarboxylic acid, which is the active ingredient in some insecticides. Benzoic acid 1-(4-hydroxybutyl) ester is found in amniotic fluid and maternal urine. It is a toxicant to the fetus and can cause severe neurological damage if ingested by a pregnant woman. The toxicological effects are due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of proteins necessary for cell division and growth, as well as its ability to induce oxidative stress.
The product will be used for the treatment of tuberculosis infections and has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, thereby preventing transcription and replication. Rifapentine also specifically binds to markers expressed at high levels in Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains (e.g., ESX-1 secretion system protein) and inhibits cell growth in culture.
