1-Benzhydrylpiperazine is a synthetic compound that can be used as an antimicrobial agent. It binds to DNA, forming intercalation complexes and inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acid. 1-Benzhydrylpiperazine has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on human tumor cells in mice. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the energy metabolism or biochemical properties of the cell. There are no known allergic reactions associated with this drug and it is not mutagenic or carcinogenic. It has been shown to bind to group P2 of mitochondria, which is responsible for regulating mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). This inhibits MMP and causes cell death by interfering with the production of ATP.
