Description:

Benzphetamine hydrochloride is a drug that binds to the dopamine transporter on the presynaptic membrane, blocking the reuptake of dopamine. It is used in the treatment of bowel disease, including inflammatory bowel disease. Benzphetamine hydrochloride has been shown to be effective in vivo and in humans. This drug has a high affinity for the dopamine transporter and has been shown to increase locomotor activity in rats with Parkinson’s disease. The human pharmacokinetics of benzphetamine hydrochloride have been studied following single oral doses and intravenous infusions. Studies have also evaluated its safety and efficacy in preventing relapse of ileal pouch-anal anastomosis after total colectomy for ulcerative colitis. Benzphetamine hydrochloride may cause adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, insomnia, dry mouth, or constipation. It should not be used with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14
