Product Information

Name:
4-Benzyloxy-2-methoxybenzaldehyde
Synonyms:
  • 2-Methoxy-4-(phenylmethoxy)benzaldehyde2-Methoxy-4-benzyloxybenzaldehyde
  • 4-Benzyloxy-o-anisaldehyde
Description:

4-Benzyloxy-2-methoxybenzaldehyde is a phytoalexin that is biosynthesized from phenylalanine by the enzyme phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL). It can be used as a starting material for the synthesis of medicagol, a natural product with anti-inflammatory properties. The demethylhomopterocarpin intermediate in 4-benzyloxy-2-methoxybenzaldehyde's biosynthesis can be synthesized using magnesium and naphthol. Reaction time can be optimized by using Trifolium pratense as the plant source. The final step of this synthesis requires the addition of an aromatic ring to form pratense.
