Description

N,N'-Bis(2,2'-dithiosalicyl)hydrazide (BDSH) is a thiol-containing compound that has been shown to have detectable activity against HIV-1 and HIV-2. BDSH targets the catalytic site of both virus types, preventing the synthesis of viral proteins. BDSH also has been shown to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) replication in cell culture. It is not active against other viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2, cytomegalovirus, hepatitis C virus, influenza A virus, or vesicular stomatitis virus. BDSH is a nucleoside analogue that blocks reverse transcriptase and RNA polymerase by inhibiting their enzyme activity.
