Bis(2,4-diamino-5-methylphenyl)methane (BMP) is a light sensitive dye that is used in polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect and measure the formation of DNA. It has been shown to bind to magnesium with high affinity and can be used as an indicator for iron homeostasis in biological function. BMP binds to iron ions and changes its color from yellow to red when bound, which can be seen through a diode. It has been shown to have inhibitory effects on up-regulated genes and response genes in cell culture. BMP is also found in preeclampsia patients and can be used as a marker for the condition.
