Description

N,N'-Bis(2-mercaptobenzoyl)hydrazide is a compound that has been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV-1. It targets human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which causes AIDS, by inhibiting viral RNA-dependent DNA polymerase and blocking the transcription of viral RNA. The activity of this drug is detectable when assayed in cell cultures containing HIV-1. N,N'-Bis(2-mercaptobenzoyl)hydrazide has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase, HIV-1 protease, and HIV-1 integrase. This agent also inhibits the catalytic activity of topoisomerases I and II in vitro. There is no evidence for toxicity or mutagenicity in animal models with intravenous administration.
