Bis[2-(perfluorodecyl)ethyl] phosphate is a perfluorinated analyte that is used as an extraction solvent to remove organic contaminants from wastewater. The solubility of bis[2-(perfluorodecyl)ethyl] phosphate in water is very low, which limits the amount that can be dissolved and removed. It is also difficult to recover by conventional methods because it does not form a stable emulsion with water. Bis[2-(perfluorodecyl)ethyl] phosphate has been used in China for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). The method involves ultrasonically extracting the analyte from the wastewater, followed by liquid chromatography quantification.
