N-1-Boc-amino-3-cyclopentene is an insulator molecule that can be used to create a heterobifunctional molecule that has the ability to bind amines. The binding of this molecule is highly specific and can be used for microscopy, with high specificity. The immobilization of this molecule onto silicon oxide surfaces was achieved by forming a monolayer through a self-assembled process. This process involved hybridization with ethylene diamine molecules and dipole interactions with mismatches on the surface. These interactions help stabilize the monolayer.
