Brassinin is a natural compound that has been shown to have reactive properties. It induces apoptosis in cancer cells, and it also inhibits the growth of fungi by disrupting mitochondrial membrane potential. Brassinin is unstable in vitro and requires special conditions to be stable. It is not clear how brassinin reacts with other compounds to produce its effects, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of MMP-9 and prevent the release of ROS. Brassinin has been shown to have an antifungal effect on Candida albicans. This substance is naturally produced by plants as a phytoalexin response to infection or injury.
