6-Bromo nicotinic acid ethyl ester is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It is synthesized by dehydrating 6-bromonicotinic acid and reacting it with ethyl bromide. 6-Bromo nicotinic acid ethyl ester has been shown to have high cytotoxicity against both caco-2 and hepg2 cells, as well as inhibiting the viability of cultured human amnion epithelial cells (A431). This drug is also effective in vitro anticancer activity against human colon adenocarcinoma SW480. 6-Bromo nicotinic acid ethyl ester can be used for the detection of chloride ions in aqueous solutions using chemiluminescence. It also has anti-cancer properties, which may be due to its ability to cross-couple with DNA or its ability to induce DNA damage, leading to cell death by apoptosis.
