Description:
(R,S)-3-Bromo nornicotine is an optically active pyridine compound with a chiral center. The synthesis of this compound is stereoselective and stereogenic because the bromine atom and the amino group are on opposite sides of the plane of the pyridine ring. This stereocenter can be used to produce (R,S)-3-Bromo nornicotine in large quantities by reacting 3-bromoaniline with nicotinoyl chloride in the presence of sodium hydroxide.
