p-(2-Bromo)vinyl anisole is a reactive intermediate that is used in the chemical synthesis of heterocycles. It can be synthesized from 2-bromoanisole and ammonia, which are treated with sodium methoxide to give the desired product. The reaction proceeds via an imine nitrogen, which reacts with the anion formed from methoxide and bromide to form a vinylic cation. This cation then undergoes a cross-coupling reaction with another molecule of vinyl bromide to produce the desired product. p-(2-Bromo)vinyl anisole is also used as a catalyst for reactions involving halides and other reagents. Yields are usually high, but this compound is not very stable and decomposes over time.END>>
