4-Bromo-2,2-diphenylbutyric acid is a non-selective μ-opioid receptor agonist that binds to and activates the opioid receptors. It also has other biological effects such as inhibition of filtration in the kidney and increasing the permeability of blood vessels in the brain. 4-Bromo-2,2-diphenylbutyric acid is a potent analgesic with a strong affinity for the μ receptor. The compound was originally developed as an experimental painkiller but its use has been discontinued due to its side effects.
