It is used in the coupling reaction of aryl halides with alkyl or allyl alcohols, as well as in the preparation of 4-bromophenylacetic acid esters. 4-Bromo-2-chlorobenzeneacetic acid ethyl ester can be used to synthesize brominated aromatic compounds, such as ibuprofen, which are often found in painkillers. The compound can be used to produce functionalized products, such as brominated aromatics and copper complexes. 4-Bromo-2-chlorobenzeneacetic acid ethyl ester has been shown to react with palladium and halides chemoselectively.
