Product Information
- 2-Chloro-4-bromothiophene
- Thiophene, 4-Bromo-2-Chloro-
- 4-BROMO-2-CHLOROTHIOPHENE
4-Bromo-2-chlorothiophene is a cyclic compound that contains a bromide ion. The mechanism of the cyclization can be explained by the formation of an unstable carbanion at the carbon atom adjacent to the chlorine atom. This reactive intermediate is stabilized by conjugation with the tetramethylammonium cation, which reacts with the chloride ion to form a new cation. The reaction between this cation and another molecule of 4-bromo-2-chlorothiophene leads to formation of an adduct in which two molecules are bridged together by an oxygen atom. In perchlorate electrolysis, 4-bromo-2-chlorothiophene forms one product, 2-bromothiophene. In electrochemical investigations, 4-bromo-2-chlorothiophene undergoes cyclic voltammetry reactions, yielding voltammograms with peaks at -0.4 V (vs Ag
