- 5-Bromo-2-methoxy-1,3-benzenediol
5-Bromo-2-methoxyresorcinol is an oxidizing agent that has been used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, such as platelet activating factor and peracetic acid. It is also a reagent for the determination of peracetic acid in pentane. 5-Bromo-2-methoxyresorcinol can be used to activate electrophiles, such as thiazolium salts, which are then used in organic synthesis. Oxidative activation of heterogenous electrophiles can be achieved by treatment with 5-bromo-2 methoxyresorcinol in the presence of hydrogen peroxide and sulfuric acid.
