Description:

a-Bromobenzeneacetic acid ethyl ester is a chemical compound that can be synthesized from an amide and bromoethane. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and has been used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. The rate of polymerization is dependent on the concentration of the reactants, but does not depend on the presence of a catalyst. A biphenyl solution was found to catalyze polymerization, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the reaction between hydroxide ions and a-bromobenzeneacetic acid ethyl ester.
