Bromovanin is a natural compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity. It inhibits cancer growth by inducing autophagy and inhibiting angiogenesis, leading to tumor cell death. Bromovanin has also been shown to inhibit the mitochondrial membrane potential, which leads to apoptosis. This drug can be used in the treatment of leukemia cells, as well as other types of cancer. Bromovanin is synthesized from salvianolic acid in a laboratory setting. Salvianolic acid is found in plants such as Salvia miltiorrhiza and Salvia officinalis. Salvianolic acid can be converted into bromovanin via an oxidation process with biphenyl or carbonyl group reagents.
