The 2-bromocinnamaldehyde is a chemical reagent used in organic synthesis and as a control for analysis of infectious diseases. The 2-bromocinnamaldehyde has been shown to be effective against intracellular Ca2+ levels by inhibiting the Na+/Ca2+ exchanger, which leads to an increase in mitochondrial functions. It also has been shown to be genotoxic, as it inhibits diphenolase activity and is capable of inducing DNA strand breaks in mononuclear cells. The 2-bromocinnamaldehyde has been shown to have fatty acid metabolism-related effects, such as the inhibition of the enzyme acetyl CoA carboxylase and the induction of peroxisome proliferation. These effects are caused by its ability to inhibit pyrazole ring hydroxylation, which prevents the conversion of acetyl CoA into malonyl CoA. This causes an accumulation of acetyl CoA that is converted into fatty
