Tert-butyl 3-methyl-4-oxopiperidine-1-carboxylate is an optically active tertiary amine that is used in organic synthesis. Tert-butyl 3-methyl-4-oxopiperidine-1-carboxylate can be synthesized through the reaction of tertiary amines with methyl chloroformate and sodium ethoxide in a high yield. The compound has an optical rotation of [α]D = +5.5° (c=0.3, methanol).
