Description:

Bethoxazin is a macrocyclic thuringiensin that is synthesized by the bacteria, Bacillus thuringiensis. It has been shown to be a microbicidal agent against bacteria, including Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli. The mechanism of action for this compound is not fully understood but it may involve covalent adducts with amines and oxadiazoles on bacterial cell walls. Bethoxazin has also been shown to have antimicrobial activity against human serum and K562 cells in vitro. This drug has also been used as an agrochemical control agent for fungi and weeds.
