1,4-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine (BEP) is a compound that has been used as a solvent for hydrogen fluoride. It is also used in the synthesis of polyurethane foam. BEP has been shown to be reactive and is used as a surfactant in the desulfurization of coal. The electron microscopic characterization of BEP shows that it has a ring structure with an hydroxyl group on one side and two hydrocarbon chains on the other side.
