Bismuth nitrate oxide is a pharmaceutical preparation that is used to treat heart disease and renal proximal tubular acidosis. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of the sodium-potassium ATPase, which is a membrane pump that transports sodium ions out of the cell and potassium ions into the cell. Bismuth nitrate oxide can be formulated as a magnesium salt or an inorganic salt, depending on its intended use. This drug is also used as a photocatalyst for the degradation of glyphosate.
